Miyazato takes early lead at Women's British Open

HOYLAKE, England (AP) ? American Cristie Kerr slipped to a double-bogey 5 on the par-3 ninth, her final hole, in the weather-delayed second round of the Women's British Open at Royal Liverpool on Saturday.

Kerr's 73 left her at 1-over 145 after two rounds, four strokes behind early leader Mika Miyazato of Japan, who added a 70 to her opening 71.

Michelle Wie and Morgan Pressel were tied with Kerr at 145. Wie had a 70 and Pressel shot 73 in calmer conditions after the first round was called off and scores nullified Friday because of high wind.

Starting at the 10th, Kerr began with five pars, dropped a shot at the short 15th but picked up birdies at the par-5 16th and 18th for a 1-under 36. She played the next eight holes at par before letting it slip at the last.

Wie also started at the 10th and picked up three birdies on the way to the turn but dropped two shots for a 36. She picked up two more birdies on her back nine while dropping one shot.

The final two rounds are set for Sunday.

"It's nice to be in the mix, and I'm excited about playing 36 holes tomorrow," Wie said. "We don't do that very often and at least I won't have to be up at 4 a.m. like this morning."

Miyazato picked up four birdies and dropped just two shots in her 70.

Her closest challenger among the early finishers was American Angela Stanford, who shot her second 72, while English amateur Holly Clyburn was at 1 over after eagling the par-5 18th.

Former winner Laura Davies of England was 10 over when she pulled out with an injured ankle after 10 holes. England's Karen Stupples, the winner in 2004, failed to make the cut after adding an 81 to her opening 76.
