University Compliments Pages Spread Kindness And Good Cheer

College campuses nationwide have taken to social media to spread kindness through anonymous compliments.

On November 20, Pennsylvania State University became the most recent college campus to create a "Compliments" page on Facebook.

The page serves as a social media platform to spread good cheer and kindess among the campus community.

According to the Penn State Compliments Facebook page, a student just has to "inbox a compliment for a Penn Stater and we will post it to this page. If there is something nice you have to say about someone but don't feel comfortable saying it to their face, inbox away. Your name will be kept anonymous."

The creator of the Facebook page -- who wished to remain anonymous -- told OnwardState.com that he got the idea when he saw a similar compliments page from another university on Facebook.

Penn State, however, has 40,000 students -- making the task of creating an online community slightly difficult for the creator. But the page has since found enormous success on campus and even internationally.

Sample some of the messages left on the page:

MESSAGE: YOU ARE THE FUNNIEST PERSON I HAVE EVER MET.

Dear Karisa Maxwell, (Please tag!) Your campus photos are awesome. Keep up the good work! - Fan of OnwardState

According to Time magazine, the viral sensation began at Queen?s University in Kingston, Ontario, on November 12 this year.

Time also highlighted the compliments page of Brown University. Two editors at the university's newspaper, the Brown Daily Herald, launched Brown University Compliments on Nov. 18, just before Thanksgiving.

Tulane University also started its own compliments page on November 13.

The creator of the page told the Tulane Hullaballoo, "It's to enforce the fact that everyone, especially students, and especially at Tulane, can always use a pick-me-up and it's easy to forget to remind the people around us how much we appreciate them. A little goes a long way, and just a simple Facebook status can change a person's entire mood in a minute."
