Three Common Causes of Back Pain | ArticlePDQ.com

Back pain is one of the more common afflictions and it affects millions of people. With some people, it?s just a temporary inconvenience, but for other people it?s a chronic condition that has a major impact on their lives. Even if you?re in generally good health, it?s hard to completely avoid having backaches every so often. The most common back pain is just a temporary condition. However, severe cases can last a long time and require medical intervention. Our goal with this report is to discuss a few of the reasons people are afflicted with back pain.

It?s interesting to note that one of the prime causes of backaches is sitting in one position for a long period of time. Simply sitting, in whatever kind of chair or seat, is the culprit here. The chair can be comfortable, or uncomfortable, and that doesn?t seem to make a difference. Why is this? When you are seated, there is more pressure on your back. You don?t have as much pressure when you are walking around or simply standing. This explains why so many people who work in offices suffer from back pain. There are now companies that produce desks that allow you to stand up if you choose, and then can be lowered so you can work sitting down. Research has proven that your health and well-being will improve if you spend less time sitting. If you don?t want to go to the extreme of standing at your desk for hours, at least take frequent breaks from sitting down. Something simple, such as standing up and stretching, or going for a five-minute walk, can make a big difference in the pressure your back is subjected to by sitting too long. One frequent
cause of back pain is a spinal injury or fracture. Spinal fractures usually occur because of a reduction in bone mass due to osteoporosis. Osteoporosis can strike both men and women as they age; however, more women are susceptible to this condition than men. And, as you can well imagine, when bones are less dense they are weaker and, as a result, can break more easily. If you do suffer from an injury, your weakened bones may collapse. This tends to be extremely painful and can also lead to your spine becoming deformed. There are medications you can take for the pain; nevertheless, this won?t solve the underlying problem. Your doctor may recommend surgery to keep the fractured bones from slipping further out of place. Research has proven that if you participate in a regular exercise program and eat a healthy diet osteoporosis can be reduced. This will help protect your spine from fractures.

Pregnant women are often susceptible to lower back pain because of the increased pressure caused by the unborn infant. Pain in the vertebrae or spinal region, specifically for pregnant women, may be the result of hormones released due to pregnancy. There are many exercises that you can do that can help you relieve back pain that you may be suffering from. You might want to visit your physician to find out what exercises can help you. There are also classes that offer exercises of this nature. Maintaining regular exercise within sensible limits can often reduce back pain and other painful symptoms of pregnancy.

Back pain can be caused by so many factors that it?s a challenge to avoid it completely. Some people do not move enough, and others do too much, both of which can cause these problems. Other things that can cause back pain include the mattress that we get to sleep on, and the shoes that we wear on a regular basis. Just sit down, try to figure out what may be causing your back pain, and do the best you can to make sure you are as comfortable as possible.
