I AM in a long-distance relationship with a girl but she talks about other guys constantly and it?s messing with my head. She says she loves me but I am confused.
I am 17 she?s 18. We have been in a relationship six months living about two hours from one another.
She went to an 18th birthday one weekend and then all I heard about was this fella she met. She said he was gorgeous, so well-built, and a rugby player.
I really like rugby and I?m pretty nifty on the field, but she says this other guy looks like a real rugby player and his six-pack is so sexy, and she was feeling it all night.
I went ballistic but later we made up. She will ask me how my match went but then quickly follow up by talking about this other fella again. We met up one weekend and she felt my arm muscles saying they are not as strong as this other guy?s arms.
He has been texting horrible things to me but my girlfriend just laughed it off, saying he?s always like that and a real laugh.
She is going away for the weekend with five mates and this guy and I probably won?t sleep thinking about it. She says I have serious trust issues. My mate says I should finish it as I don?t deserve this treatment. I love her with all my heart so what am I doing wrong?
DEIDRE SAYS
She?s massaging her own ego by getting a reaction from you over this other guy. It?s unkind, especially since you are having a long-distance relationship and she must know it winds you up.
Your mate has a point. You don?t deserve to be with someone who clearly gets a thrill from what she?s doing but then tries to make out you have trust issues.
Tell her how you feel, and that you?re only into this relationship if it?s about the two of you. Unless she wants the same thing it?s best you go your separate ways. You can find someone who wants the same things you do, and she can play her games with someone else.
I?m emailing you my leaflet Learning About Relationships to help.
